Level One is designed to be the students’ first introduction to the process of learning to read. Students will use two workbooks that contain handwriting readiness pages, large alphabet letters for students to trace, and pages to develop phonological awareness skills.
- Students will learn the letters of the alphabet and the sounds that they represent in words.
- They will trace large lowercase and capital letters on the chalkboard and in their workbooks.
- They will become familiar with the concept of beginning sounds and ending sounds in words.
- They will practice segmenting skills so that they will be able to separate a word into separate syllables or individual sounds.
- They will practice oral blending skills so that they will be able to hear individual sounds and put them together to form spoken words.
- They will listen as the teacher reads lessons to teach print awareness concepts.
