Welcome to Sound City Reading
My main website can be found at www.soundcityreading.net. You will be able to find an explanation about the Sound City Reading program and how it teaches reading using phonics on that site. You will also be able to find free, downloadable PDF files for all of the teaching levels for students from kindergarten through second grade. You may use these materials to teach your child at home or the students in your classroom.
You are currently at the WordPress version of the Sound City Reading website. I will be adding any new information or materials related to my Sound City Reading program here, since the original http://www.soundcityreading.net site, while still available, can no longer be modified.

Wall Charts On Display Boards
I am currently tutoring a delightful young student. We started before the end of her first-grade year and have continued through the beginning months of her second-grade year. We have covered Phonetic Words and Stories, Books 1 through 3 and we are currently in Book 4. I have found that she needs to be able to see all of the wall charts that have been introduced on display during her lessons. I had thought that we might be able to just look at and review the charts in the Phonetic Words and Stories books at the beginning of each lesson, but it was not sufficient. I printed the charts and mounted them on the type of folding display boards that are typically used for science projects. At the beginning of each lesson, I point out the new sound pattern for her to learn. Then I use a pointer and have her say the sounds for the letters of the alphabet and for all of the phonogram sounds that have been taught. This has worked very well. Next, she says all of the sounds she has learned from the phonogram cards, including the new pattern.
